A broadcast journalist with the Ogun State Television (OGTV), Abeokuta, Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu, on Monday slumped and died while preparing for her afternoon shift at the state-owned media house.

Her death was confirmed by the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Mr. Bunmi Adigun, in a statement released in Abeokuta and reported by Vanguard on Tuesday night.

“Agbakaizu, a dedicated staff member of Ogun State Television, tragically collapsed while preparing for afternoon shift, and despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Federal Medical Centre,” the statement read.

Adigun described the late journalist as a “versatile and passionate comrade” who previously served as Vice Chairman of OGTV Chapel and was an Ex-Officio member of the NUJ Ogun State Council.

In a separate condolence message, the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) expressed deep shock over Agbakaizu’s death, describing it as a “rude shock” and a “bitter pill to swallow.”

The Chairperson of Ogun NAWOJ, Mrs. Sekinat Salam, in a statement, described the deceased as a consummate professional and dedicated member of the journalism profession.

“Ogun NAWOJ received the news of Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu with a rude shock. Her death came when her experience and exemplary leadership would have been greatly needed. Her compassion, love for others, and passion for the profession will always be remembered,” the statement read in part.

Agbakaizu, aged 52, is survived by two children, her aged mother, colleagues, and friends.
