President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a strong directive for a complete overhaul of Nigeria’s national security strategy, declaring “enough is enough” in response to the escalating violence across several states.

At a high-level security meeting held at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday, the President ordered a fresh and more aggressive approach to combating insecurity in Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara States. The meeting, which lasted over two hours, brought together all service chiefs and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Ribadu revealed that the President was deeply troubled by the recent attacks and the loss of innocent lives. “Mr President gave us very clear instructions. He said, ‘Enough is enough.’ He wants immediate action to restore peace and stability,” Ribadu stated.

The NSA explained that the security chiefs had briefed the President on the death toll and damage caused by recent attacks, and assured him of their commitment to carrying out the new directives.

Ribadu also noted that even while abroad on official visits to Paris and London, President Tinubu remained actively engaged, issuing directives and monitoring developments in real-time.

“In addition to ordering an operational review, the President emphasized the need to deepen collaboration with local government and state authorities. Security is not just a federal responsibility. Local councils and communities must be fully involved,” Ribadu added.

The NSA confirmed that the security agencies had visited flashpoints in Plateau, Benue, and Borno States on the President’s orders, and were working with state governments and political leaders to de-escalate tensions and restore order.

President Tinubu’s latest intervention comes amid growing concern over attacks involving improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and assaults on ungoverned areas, often targeting civilians.

“The President was very worried and concerned. But he is also determined. We are all working to deliver on his directive to secure Nigeria,” Ribadu affirmed.

The security meeting included top officials from the armed forces, police, and intelligence community, with a shared commitment to implement the President’s instructions swiftly and effectively.
