The authorities of Oyo State Government-owned tertiary institutions have appealed to the leadership of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Industrial Unions to suspend the planned strike over minimum wage payment, scheduled to commence today, Monday, 10th March 2025.
At an emergency meeting held on Sunday, 9th March 2025, at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, the Rectors of The Polytechnic Ibadan (TPI), Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, The Okeogun Polytechnic, Saki, The College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, and the Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate engaged with JAC representatives, urging them to allow more time for negotiations and consultations.
According to a statement signed by Alhaji Soladoye Adewole, the authorities emphasized that proceeding with a strike at this time would be counterproductive, disrupting academic activities and ongoing efforts towards a resolution.
They also urged the unions to consider the potential negative impact of the strike on students and the host communities of the institutions.
In response, the Chairman of JAC, TPL. Dr. Kola Lawal, assured the institution authorities that an online meeting would be convened with the union’s executives and members to deliberate on the appeal.
