In a race against potential disaster/inferno; the Ag. Unit Commander RS11.312 Oolo Unit Command, CRC Femi Adeyemo pjsc alongside some other staff of the Command engaged in ‘House to House’ advocacy within the Command’s jurisdiction, kicking against the scooping of Petroleum products from fallen tankers along the road (Oolo – Oyo and Oolo – Ogbomoso).
This aligns with the alarm of the rising number of similar fatalities, especially the rate of deaths of residents during the removal of petrol in cases of tanker crashes, turning the scene to a deadly inferno.
As part of the Command’s effort to compliment the ‘2025 Corps Corporate Strategic Goal’ to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries; the ‘House to House’ advocacy is described by the Ag. Unit Commander Oolo as an Home grown initiative to address the attitudinal behavior of the people within the Command’s jurisdiction; hence warning residents of the disasters attached to scooping of fuel from crashed tankers loaded with petrol products; such as loss of lives and properties amidst other disasters.
“FRSC Corps Marshal, Sheu Mohammed mni FCA FCTI in one of his recent address gave the assurance of the Corps commitment to collaborating with relevant authorities such as ‘National Orientation Agency (NOA)’ and others on areas of Public enlightenment on Safety matters – this further compliments Oolo Unit Command’s interest to educating residents along Oolo – Oyo and Oolo – Ogbomoso road; extensively covering the Command’s flashpoints – Asani, Adetunji, Ita Maya and Odooba residents, on dangers of scooping fuel from fallen tankers”
Other than enlightening the residents, flyers were also distributed to them to see the images of victims who had lost their lives in the course of petrol scooping from fallen tankers, this includes women, men and children who rushes to the crash scene to secure petroleum products.
Due to the inherent dangers attached to inferno, the residents were further admonished during the advocacy to avoid boarding trailers and trucks that are meant for goods in the course of their trips, and most importantly jettison night travels. Emphasis was extensively laid on the fact that dire consequences is attached to scooping of fuel from fallen tankers, which is always deadly, causing explosion and environmental pollution.
Femi Adeyemo who led the Command’s Operatives for the advocacy urged the residents to learn from the past tragic occurences. He equally disclosed that FRSC as an agency prioritizes safety; hence due to the fact that fuel is highly inflammable, cases of fallen tankers are expected to be handled by professionals, as such situations can be addressed safely and efficiently. He also offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the departed souls in similar courses, while the injured ones are wished swift and full recovery”
Other notable factors attached to crashes of tankers are bad road conditions (blackspots), poor vehicle maintenance, reckless driving and usage of faulty tankers to convey petroleum products.
The Ag. Unit Commander also assured the residents that the Command is committed to ensuring reduction in road traffic deaths and injuries through deployment of various road safety tips and strategies, hence beseeched to cooperating with the Operatives on road safety administration, traffic management and it’s related matters, within the Community.
“The House to House campaign initiatives remains a continuous effort which would be progressively rejigged with other tactics towards the optimum actualization of the ‘Corps Corporate Strategic Goal’ for the year 2025, CRC Femi Adeyemo disclosed”
