The Prince Kayode Oyetunde Bayewuwon Foundation successfully hosted the second edition of its Secondary School Debate Competition on December 11 and 12, 2024, in Ogbomoso.
The event, designed to promote youth development through intellectual engagement, brought together participants from secondary schools across the region to showcase their oratory and critical thinking skills.
This latest edition followed the first competition, held in the Oyo zone in October, where participants received cash and material prizes.
The Ogbomoso contest saw outstanding performances from students, with Ige Mercy from Samsudeen Grammar School, Ogo Oluwa Local Government, emerging as the winner and receiving a cash prize of N100,000. Olatubosun Oluwafemi from Ogbomoso High School, Ogbomoso South Local Government, secured the first runner-up position with a prize of N75,000, while Micheal Stephen from Iresaadu High School claimed the second runner-up spot and a prize of N50,000.
Other notable mentions included David Modupe from Ori Oke Community High School, Ogbomoso North, who finished in fourth place, and Gbadero Oluwaferanmi from Oriire Local Government, who took the fifth position.
In his closing remarks, Prince Kayode Oyetunde Bayewuwon emphasized the importance of initiatives like the debate competition in preparing young people for future leadership roles. He stated,
“This debate is designed to encourage participants to develop their communication skills, build confidence, and prepare them for leadership roles in the future.”
The foundation reaffirmed its commitment to empowering youths through similar programs and announced plans to further expand the initiative in the coming years.
