#Endhungerprotest: BUNVIC, Others Caution Against Violent Demonstrations

A former National Assembly member Hon Segun Dokun Odebunmi has joined concerned  stakeholders cautioning Nigerian youths against the damaging effects of violent protest.

Some groups of activitist and social crusaders are planning to kick state a 10 days protest dubbed #endbadgovernance, #endhungerprotest tomorrow August 1

The ex-lawmaker who represented Ogo Oluwa Surulere Federal constituency at the 7th, 8th and 9th Assembly joined other party stalwarts including Hon Muraina Ajibola, Hon Dapo Lam Adesina, Hon Sunday Adepoju and Hon Kolawole Raji to sensitize the youths and Students on the implications of violent protest and other issues at the party Secretariat, Oke Ado Ibadan.

The lawmaker acknowledged that the right to protest is a fundamental right of citizens but it should however be conducted in a peaceful manner, as Nigeria is still recovering from the pains of the recent #EndSARS protests.

He maintained that “The #EndSARS protests saw the destruction of a lot of valuable properties and the disruption of people’s livelihoods,” the former legislator said. “We cannot afford to repeat such a scenario, as the country is still grappling with the aftermath of those events.”

He called on security operatives to be more professional in handling protest situations, urging them to exercise restraint and avoid the use of excessive force.

The All Progressives Congress (APC )chieftain also assured Nigerians that the government is working hard to make the country a place of pride, and that with time, the situation will improve.

“The government is fully aware of the challenges facing the nation, and they are working tirelessly to address them,
part of the way out of is the decision on local government autonomy, distribution of food items and funds to members of the public, the directive to NNPC to sell crude oil to Dangote Refinery at naira rate, students loan and other masses friendly policies initiated by president Tinubu government will help Nigeria

He however urge Nigerians to be patient and to engage in peaceful protests, as this will help us move forward as a nation.”
