Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom revealed that the G5 faction within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) intends to endorse President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
He said this at a luncheon hosted by the Federal Capital Territory’s Minister, Nyesom Wike, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Joined by Wike and another G5 member, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Ortom reaffirmed the group’s support for Tinubu, a notable member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The G5, consisting of five ex-governors within the PDP, notably stood against Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, favouring Tinubu as the southern candidate.
The G5 comprises Ortom, Wike, Ugwuanyi, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, and Seyi Makinde of Oyo. All members concluded their two-term governorships in May, with Makinde currently in his second term.
Ortom, addressing the gathering, emphasized the G5’s resolute backing of Tinubu’s previous election success and pledged renewed support for Tinubu’s potential presidency.
“We are backing President Bola Tinubu in 2027,” Ortom stated. “Our leader, Nyesom Wike, has already made this declaration. We believe in Nigerians’ trust in his leadership.
Tinubu’s experience and expertise are needed to address the challenges facing our country. Even the past administration that took Nigeria from top to bottom, we allowed them to work for eight years. So, why can’t a seasoned administrator in the person President Bola Tinubu rule us for eight years?”
