Ooni’s Wife Partners Itire-Ikate Artisans on Adire indigenous Textile Exhibition

Wife of the Ooni of Ife,Queen Aderonke Ademiluyi Ogunwusi has restated the need for an enduring synergy among producers of Adire

indigenous textile across South West region.

Olori Ogunwusi spoke in Lagos, during a special visit to the Chairman of National Union of Textile Garment Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) Kampala Sector,Comrade Ibrahim Lawal,at the union Secretariat, at Itire-Ikate LCDA, Lagos.

The Queen,who is also the Creative Director of Adire Textile hub in Ife, indicated her interest in building a unifying template that would also showcases the beauty of Yoruba indigenous textile materials and products that can compete with that of the global market.

She expressed satisfaction at the efforts of the Lagos state chapter of the union for promoting indigenous Textile and using their products to project the cultural identity of the Yoruba.

“I am very happy to be here and it is my belief that the leadership of the union’s Kampala sector in Lagos is ready to cooperate and partner with us as we unveil the popular Adire Indigenous Textile Exhibition in Ile Ife,Osun state in September this year”.

The Exhibition, according to Olori Ogunwusi is part of the programme slated for the 2023 edition of Olojo Festival holding between 22nd and 23rd of September, in Ile -Ife and it is going to be the rallying point for over 50 exhibitors across South West.

Executive Chairman,Itire Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Hon.Hammed Olanrewaju Apatira, also played host to Olori Ogunwusi at the Council Secretariat.

He applauded the Itire-Ikate artisan under the leadership of Comrade Ibrahim Lawal for his efforts in transforming the union, saying the Council would continue to support the union’s initiative in driving the lofty ideas of promoting the sector.

The Itire-Ikate LCDA boss stated further that the council under his leadership is ready to make the business environment viable for growth and development.

“It is our intention to make the union’s production site one of the best in Africa.We have textile production hub across Africa and we are determined to ensure that the Kampala Sector of the Lagos state National Union of Textile Garment Tailoring Workers of Nigeria compete with other countries like what is obtainable in
Gambia, Senegal,Mali,and other African countries that are also partners in indigenous Textile products.

Meanwhile,the Chairman of the Kampala sector of the union,who is also the Project Manager and co- organizer of the Adire Indigenous Textile Exhibition, Comrade Ibrahim Lawal, expressed his appreciation to Olori Ogunwusi for the special visit.

The Lagos state NUTGTWN boss added that the sector is ready to partner with the Queen in her efforts to transform the laudable project.

“I am honoured to play host to Olori Aderonke Ademiluyi Ogunwusi,wife of the foremost Yoruba monarch.

“Our job as National Union of Textile Garment Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) Kampala Sector,is to promote indigenous Textile.And we will not relent in creating the market for our products.

“The chairman of Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has been supporting our dreams for years.He has been the pillar of support for our sector,and we have been able to project our works through his support since I became the chairman of the union in Lagos state”, he said.
