The Nigerian Youth Parliament, in a plenary session today, adopted a motion on the NEED TO CALL ON THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO ACCESS THE AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK’S GRANT FOR YOUTHS EMPOWERMENT IN AGRICULTURE.
The motion was moved by the member representing Oyo Central, Hon Prince Adetayo Adekunle.
The House noted that many agile youths have passion for agriculture, but unfortunately currently at subsistence level.
The House also RECOLLECTED that agriculture was the mainstay of Nigerian economy before the discovery of oil.
The House OBSERVED that agriculture has the capacity to absorb a high number of youth, thereby reducing unemployment.
The House is equally AWARE that the African Development Bank has set aside about $300,000,000 for youth empowerment in agriculture under the ENABLE youth scheme.
It accordingly RESOLVED to Call on the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Finance to initiate a move to access this fund without delay and call on the Federal Government to liaise with all agricultural research institutes in the country to organize training for youths in agriculture
