After a meritorious 3 terms at the House Of Representative, representing Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency, as the Chairman House Of Representative Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Value it is important to examine some of the reasons Olusegun Odebunmi’s constituency and indeed Ogooluwa/Surulere are gladly calling for his automatic return for a fourth term in Office. The journey has not been a tarred and smooth one in terms of legislative and oversight function within the chamber and the general outlook of events in the country – a distraction too expensive to playback and despite all, Hon Olusegun Odebunmi Bunvic shone like a million star to the admiration of his fans, colleagues and his adversaries. Here are some of the reasons Olusegun Odebunmi deserves our vote for continuity of a shared prosperity.
1. Olusegun Odebunmi after serving as Chairman of Surulere Local Government of Oyo State, decided to seek the mandate of his people to represent them at the green chamber. These, many opined will open the flood gate of federal jobs in various sectors such as Agriculture, Aviation, Appointments, Ministry jobs e.t.c. Today, many Ogooluwa/Surulere benefited from the federal government empowerment scheme and various job openings were scouted in favour of Ogooluwa/Surulere by the people’s Representative.
2. When Odebunmi served as Chairman of Surulere Local Government, he performed excellently. He touched almost everywhere, touched every sectors.. he even employed two hundred and thirty eight graduates most of whom have now become Directors in their various departments, this earned him an award as the best performing Chairman in Nigeria.
3. Bills/Motion – Mention 360 House Of Representative members, and one name will stand out; Olusegun Odebunmi doggedness in his early days in the legislative chamber were taken for granted. But his continuous believe in people oriented leadership won him accolades. Hon Olusegun Odebunmi fondly called BUNVIC, has sponsored numerous bills and motion in the house such as Bill For An Act To Provide The Mandatory Inclusion Of Cassava And Shogurm in the production of all flours in Nigeria, A bill for an Act To Amend The Nigerian Television Authority Act Cap N136 Laws of the federation of Nigeria. 2004, A bill for an Act To Establish Dietitians Council Of Nigeria To Regulate The Profession Of Dietetics, a Bill For An Act To Amend The Fiscal Responsibility Act Cap F40, Laws of The Federation Of Nigeria To Ensure Transparency, Due Process And Accountability in the Administration Of Public Funds, to mention but a few.. Despite the difficulty faced, Bunvic make sure he’s representing his people well in the green chamber and has ensure good representation. For this reason, general believe is; he will achieve more given similar opportunity.
4. Constituency Project is a core responsibility of every elected personnel. However, since there are no standard gauges to measure performances, it is safe to say many can get away with funds meant to cater for the constituency. Arguably, Olusegun Odebunmi will pass as the only House Of Representative member who has touched all the Wards in his Constituency, only House Of Representative member who does not stop at executing constituency projects but further engages the media to witness the project from start to finish. Within the last few years, Ogooluwa/Surulere has witnessed an influx of people willingly attending extra mural classes and obtaining free Jamb and Waec forms provided by Olusegun Odebunmi, and also he has facilitated many ICT buildings in Secondary Schools to improve education Standard in the Constituency. Odebunmi’s Employment project into NDLEA, SUBEB, FIRS, CUSTOMS, MINISTRIES and TEACHING SERVICES etc have been commended by his constituents at home and in the Diaspora. Electricity and Solar Powered Motorized Borehole in about 18 Wards and various patching and grading of roads, drainages and massive erosion control projects are but a few of Odebunmi’s gleaming achievements. Also Odebunmi has empowered over 5000 constituents with his capacity building, skills development, entrepreneurship trainings and empowerments. And it is achieved by providing Laptops for students, provision of grant for traders, provision of working tools for the artisans and so on.
5. Voice For the Voiceless: We are living at a time where it is more rewarding to keep quiet in the face of injustice as long as our relatives, friends are not involved. The former Chairman of Surulere Local Government And Honourable Representing Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency Hon Olusegun Odebunmi stands out among his peers when issues affecting the youths are on the front burner. He’s about the only House of Representatives member to have openly disagreed with the the power that be several times on flawed polices.. Silence is golden, but not in the face of Injustice, Olusegun Odebunmi constantly engages with the youth via social media platforms and organized various meetings to feel their pulse in order to act accordingly. His many goodwill initiatives have earned him the status as ‘Ore ara-ilu in his State; always precise and hitting the nail on the head without mincing words. Often regarded as a no nonsense politician revered by those in the opposition, Bunvic has carved a niche for himself as the mouth piece of youth, no doubt they want him to continue the work.
