The Dominican University, Ibadan is set to celebrate her first and second convocation ceremonies on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
The institution Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Hyginus Ekwuazi, who made this disclosure at a press conference held at the campus of the university located at Samonda, Ibadan, Oyo State Capital,.
Prof. Ekwuazi explained that,“Activities leading to the Convocation Ceremonies will kick off with a Foundation Lecture on Friday, December 9, 2022. The Foundation Lecture will be delivered by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University, Chief Anthony Idigbe, (SAN).”
“The title of the Lecture is An Impact – The Vision for Dominican University, Ibadan. The Lecture begins at 2:00 pm. at the Tom and Carolyn Walker Hall.”
“At the end of the Lecture, the Proprietor will commission the PS 133 Water Fountain at the Samonda Campus of the University.”
“On December 10, 2022, the University will hold the combined Convocation Ceremonies for the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions. The Convocation Ceremony begins at 11 am at the Samonda Campus of the University. The Convocation Lecture, Let Your Degree Count, will be delivered by Mr. Peter Amangbo, Chairman, Board of Directors, Globus Bank Ltd., and a member of the Governing Council of the University.”
“The Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Modestus Ngwu, O.P., who presides at the convocation ceremonies and other assemblies of the University for the conferment of degrees, diplomas, certificates and other awards, shall confer and present degrees and awards to the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 graduands of the University.”
“The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, FNSE, will be the Chief Guest at the Convocation. The Special Guests of Honour for the occasion will be: His Imperial Majesty, Senator Moshood Olalekan Balogun, Olubadan of Ibadan Land, and His Imperial Majesty, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife.”
Ekwuazi, also stressed that a total of 96 students will be graduating from the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic session respectively. He said further,
“Out of the total of 47 graduands for the 2020/2021 academic session, 6 graduands are in the 1st Class Honours category; 22 in the 2nd Class Honours (Upper Division) category; and 19 graduands, in the 2nd Class Honours (Lower Division) category.”
“In the 2021/2022 academic session, out of the total of 49 graduands, 7 graduands are in the 1st Class Honours Category: 32 in the 2 Class Honours (Upper Division) category, and 9 graduands, in the 2 Class Honours (Lower Division) category.”
Speaking on the awards and prize for the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 sessions respectively, the Acting VC said,
“For the 2020/2021, the following categories of awards will be conferred on some deserving graduands—best Overall Graduating Student goes to Mr. Nduka Onyedika of the Department of Philosophy Religious Studies with CGPA of 4.76; Best Craduating Student Faculty of Humanities Management and Social science also goes to Nduka Onyedika of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies with CGPA of 4.76”
“Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Science, goes to Mr. David Okechukwa of the Department of Physical and Mathematical Sciences with CGPA of 4.12; Best Male Graduating Student is Nduka Onyedika of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, with CGPA of 4.76”
“Best Female Graduating Student, is Miss Nofisat lyanda of the Department of Social and Management Sciences with CGPA of 4.59”
“For the 2021/2022 awards and prize the Best Overall Graduating Student, is Miss Udenkwo Chinedum Mary of the Department of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, with CGPA of 4.83”
“The Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Humanities, Social and Management Sciences, is Rev. St. Justina Chinonso Ezike of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, with CGPA of 4.75; Best Graduating Student, Faculty of Science is Miss Udenkwo Chinedum Mary, with CGPA of 4.83”
“ Best Male Graduating Student is Mr. George Fordjour, OP of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, with CGPA of 4.71; Best Female Graduating Student is Miss Udenkwo Chinedum Mary of the Department of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, with CGPA of 4.83”
