How Customs Officers, Residents Clashed in Igangan, Igboora, Others

The attack on Ibarapaland on Friday July 16 was not the handiwork of Fulani herders as been reported in some media

Relevant and authoritative accounts revealed that  some Customs officers heavily supported by soldiers instigated the attacks while on patrol of the area. Towns around Ibarapa started mounting blocks as security measures  to curb excesses of marauding gunmen.

The Customs officers with some in military uniform opened fire on bystanders at each of the roadblocks they saw in Igbo Ora and Igangan and that led to deaths.

An Amotekun operative driving his bike to join his colleagues for patrol was gunned down by men in military uniform.

Meanwhile three Customs Officers and a soldier who were injured during the attack

The injured Customs Officers who are operatives of the Zone A, Federal Operations Unit, sighted 8 trucks carrying smuggled foreign parboiled rice whose drivers and armed accompanying passengers launched attack on the officers

One of the attackers was shot and disarmed while the others retreated with their smuggled wares

The acting Controller of the Unit, DC Usman Yahaya,  while condeming  the attack reiterates the uncompromising resolve of the Service to suppress smuggling.

He said the unit will never relent or be intimidated by this unwarranted attacks by criminal elements unlawfully bearing arms and unleashing same on officers on legitimate duties.
