COCSOP Organizes 4 – Day Ceremony To Commemorate 2020 International Day of Peace

The Coalition of Civil Societies on Community Peace (COCSOP) have organized a 4 – Day ceremony to celebrate the 2020 International Day of Peace, A day recognized by the United Nations General Assembly.

The international Day of Peace is a special day which is observed around the world on the 21st of September of every year, with the aim to devote a day to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.

The Coalition of Civil Societies on Community Peace (COCSOP) has however scheduled a 4 – day celebration which will be held between Friday, 18th of September to Monday, 21st of September, 2020.

The event scheduled Friday to observe a Jumat service at the Shafaudeen Mosque, Wakajaye Area, Iyana Church, Ibadan, Saturday to organize a Workshop by the Peace Makers Guide Humanitarian Support Organization, Sunday to organize a worship service at ECWA church, Monatan, Ibadan and Monday to Commemorate the International Day of Peace and organize a Stakeholders Roundtable forum Peace and Security at the Social Welfare Development Centre, Samonda, Ibadan.

Speaking at the Pre – celebration Media Engagement held at the office of the Muslim Ummah in Southwest Nigeria (MUSWEN) on Saturday, the National Focal Person of COCSOP, Bishop Adegbolagun George maitanined that this year celebration with the theme “Shaping Peace Together” is to encourage the people on shunning all sort of nepotism, selfish interest and to protect the nation from disintegration.

Bishop George further explain that the Coalition of Civil Societies on Community Peace was founded in 2007 with the aim to bring like minded Non governmental organizations (NGOs) together to highlight global peace building as recognized by the United Nations.

The Chairman of COCSOP Board of Trustees and founder of the Shafaudeen in Islam Worldwide, Alh. Prof. Sabitu Olagoke while speaking about the theme “Shaping Peace Together” maintained that the Family remain the primary agent in the upbringing of a child as an ambassador of peace in his society.

Alh. Olagoke added all spheres of human endeavors requires a complete overhauling adding the area of the education institution and the “collapsed building” of the religion institution need to be revisited.

He added that with the above recommendations, Culture and tradition of one’s environment should be made a bedrock of human interaction in grooming confidence, ability to deliver, self esteem, integrity, positivity and qualitative mindset of every child who can take moral discipline as a vital tool in his way of life.

According to the National Secretary, Dr. Oluwabukola Olatunji, dignitaries that would grace the main event on Monday, 21st of September are Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Alh. Fausat Ajoke Sanni, Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mrs. Dolapo Dosunmu, Arhbisop Emeritus, Methodist Church, Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu JP and many others.
