Oyo state Governor Seyi Makinde on Wednesday visited some community affected by yesterday heavy dowpour
He assured that with several ongoing flood management projects being executed across the state challenges of flooding would reduce within the next eighteen months.
He gave the assurance during an on the spot assessment visit to communities affected by the heavy rainfall on Tuesday which caused flooding in some part of Ibadan, destroyed properties worth millions and rendered some homeless.
Governor Makinde explained that the state government had commenced work on proper channelization, better drainage system, construction of necessary bridges and ensuring that no structure block water ways in accordance with the Ibadan city master plan.
He also harped on the need for residents to imbibe necessary safety and hygiene habit by not blocking drainages with waste and building structure to obstruct free passage water.
The governor, in the company of the officials of the state Ministry of public works, Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project, Oyo state Emergency Management Agency, visited Iwo-road, Olodo, Onipepeye, amongst other places affected by the rain.
