To become the Speaker of the House of Assembly of a state as politically sophisticated as Oyo State at the age of 32 is no mean feat. 365 days later, you have shown to both supporters and detractors alike that being young is not a disadvantage, it is an asset, an advantage, it gives an edge. You are making the youths proud and I, Asiwaju Adekola Adeoye, speaking for the youths of Oyo State PDP is taking this opportunity to say Thank You for giving us an example to follow, a path to tread and a vision to pursue. Many more youths are aspiring for political offices and appointments believing more in themselves that they can perform because you – Rt Hon Adebo Ogundoyin, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, the 9th Assembly and the House of Innovation – you are performing.
We are especially impressed by the promptness and spontaneity with which you respond to every burning socio-cultural issues and provide the appropriate legal backing for government policies and actions to proceed on them. Thank you especially for the Amotekun Corps Bill which has greatly helped in restoring our pride in being a Yoruba youth. We are the children of Oduduwa, with a long and proud history and heritage and we refuse to be prey to some gun toting Fulani herdsmen or bandits, whichever they may be. Neither we nor our sisters and daughters are chickens to be picked off randomly by rapists, ritualists and Yahoo boys. No, we are not!
Furthermore, your work on the Oyo State Agribusiness Agency Bill is the foundation for the eventual employment of so many youths in the, “Youths in Agribusiness Project”. Our pride in this vocation of our fore-fathers is being restored and more and more youths are seeing it as a career option. Thank you, Mr Speaker!
Not that all the 23 other bills you and the 9th Assembly delivered in a single year are not appreciated by the youths, they are, but to comment on each and every one of them will make this piece rather long. The intention here is to congratulate you and your House of Innovation on a remarkable first year in office and to wish you more grace, wisdom and strength for the years ahead.
Congratulations!
