Governors in the South West States are set to launch in October a new security outfit to be known as Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN).
The decision to establish a security network to tame the activities of herdsmen and bandit in the state was reached at a meeting held in Ondo
Already ,the governors are putting finishing touches to the inauguration of the security outfit following the Approval in principle given by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) for the zone to establish a Joint Task Force (JTF) to tackling killings, banditry and kidnapping in the region.
The governors agreed to defend the region in a security summit held in Ibadan, Oyo state capital in July.
It was also agreed by the governors of the region to set up a management team to coordinate its activities across the region.
The region management team would ensure exchange of intelligence and sharing of experience for maximum performance.
It was also agreed that WNSN will be made of of unconventional security personnel, including local hunters and members of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) as well as other related personnel.
They will work with traditional rulers and relate with police on specific engagement including prosecution of arrested suspects. Their relationship with the police is to ensure they operate within the ambit of the law.
The members of WNSN are to comb forests and monitor activities in urban neighborhoods to supports the conventional security operatives.
