Ajimobi Was Quoted Out of Context on Support for Gbajabiamila – Repete

The All Progressives Congress APC Deputy National Youth Leader, Afeez Bolaji Repete has debunked the claims that Oyo state Governor Ajimobi has adopted Hon Femi Gbajabiamila as the candidate for the 9th Assembly speaker.

He said the promoter of the story, Hon Akeem Adeyemi quoted Senator Abiola Ajimobi out of context as he only advised that they should toe the party line without mentioning any particular name.

Senator Abiola Ajimobi had on Monday met with some of the APC Rep members elect at his Oluyole residence in Ibadan, 3 out of the 9 elected lawmakers were not at the meeting.

Hon Akeem Adeyemi who represents Atiba/Afijio,/oyo East/Oyo West Federal constituency at the National Assembly is the South West Coordinator of Hon Femi Gbajabiamila for Speaker.

Repete who is also the Special Assistant to Governor Ajimobi on Youth and Sport in a statement said as the leader and father of the party in the state Governor Ajimobi always put the interest of the state first in whatever he does.

He said further that ” In as much as the National Leadership of the party is yet to zone the position of the speakership to any zone in the country, we are very optimistic that if eventually it is zoned to the southwest, Oyo State will never be pushed aside as we have two qualified persons vying for the position of speakership from the state.

“Nothing is wrong if Hon. Akeem Adeyemi being the southwest coordinator of Hon. Gbajabiamila declared his support for him but he should not drag the name of our leader into his personal ambition , he has the constitutional power to do so but he has no power to speak and address the press on behalf of our leader.

We shall not trade our right and struggle for just a chairman
Of an house committee, we are resolute and nothing shall discourage us while encouraging Hon. Odebunmi Segun representing OgoOluwa Surulere and Hon. Jide Olatunbosun representing Saki East,West and Atisbo not to be discourage by the antics and tactics of the few.

“As we await the official declaration from the governor as regards the issue of speakership, I urge all our honourable- elect to stand and defend Oyo agenda,” Repete counselled.

Oriire Kidnapping: Stop Politicising Amotekun Casualty Figures, Oyelade Tells Opposition

The Oyo State Government has cautioned opposition politicians against politicising the recent kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area, insisting that misleading narratives about the state security outfit, Amotekun Corps, are unhelpful to ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity. The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, made the appeal in a statement issued on Thursday, saying Governor Seyi Makinde's recent disclosure that about 200 operatives of the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps) had died since the organisation's establishment six years ago was being deliberately misrepresented. According to Oyelade, some opposition elements had wrongly linked the figure to the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire, thereby creating a false impression that the casualties occurred during the incident. He described the interpretation as "cheap politics," stressing that no Amotekun operative lost his life in connection with the Oriire kidnapping. "For the opposition to turn the statistics on its head is nothing but cheap politics. Amotekun has not lost a single operative in the Oriire kidnapping incident. The only casualty recorded was a personnel who sustained injuries and is currently recuperating," he stated. The commissioner explained that the 200 deaths recorded since the creation of the corps in 2020 resulted from various causes, including illnesses, natural causes and fatalities sustained during security operations. He added that due procedures were followed in all cases, including notification of the families of deceased personnel. Oyelade maintained that the Oyo State Amotekun Corps remains the most funded and best-equipped security outfit in the South-West, noting that it currently operates 181 vehicles and 450 motorcycles, with a workforce of more than 2,500 personnel. He said the corps is the largest Amotekun formation in the region and one of the best remunerated. The commissioner further recalled that Governor Makinde had consistently advocated state policing and the deployment of superior weapons to security agencies since 2021 to enable them effectively confront bandits and kidnappers. According to him, the governor's repeated calls have received little attention despite the growing security challenges across the country. Oyelade urged political actors to approach the security situation from a non-partisan perspective and avoid statements capable of undermining rescue efforts or endangering lives. He also appealed to residents of the state to continue supporting the government and security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace and security across Oyo State.
