The Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its standard bearer in the September, 22, governorship election in Osun state, Senator Iyiola Omisore described the allegation of extensive vandalism of APC gubernatorial candidate’s billboard” at Iwo and Ile Ife respectively as a lie
Mr Kunle Oyatomi Esq, Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, APC, State of Osun had in a press statement attributed the vandalization of APC governorship candidate billboards to the SDP and the ADP “supporters” in Iwo and Ile-Ife and call on the opposition parties leaders to call their supporters to order.
Omisore in a press statement issued by the media team said “ it is clear that APC is out again with its unending self fashioned mischievous claims aimed at portraying the opposition especially the leading SDP and its governorship candidate in bad light with the recent claim”
“Our concern on the said Press statement was the aspect in which Mr Oyatomi alluded thus that ” These two cities are the home bases of the ADP and SDP gubernatorial candidates, Sen iyiola Omisore and Alhaji Moshood Adeoti. We want to appeal to the two candidates to rein in their overzealous supporters from their criminal activities before the vandals implicate them in crime”.
“At this juncture, both the SDP and its governorship candidate in the September,22 election wish to dissociate itself as well as Senator Iyiola Omisore from the said vandalisation of the billboards of the APC candidate as claimed by Mr Oyatomi in his Press Release as SDP members and supporters in and across Osun state are civil, law abiding citizens and lovers of democracy who will never engage in act of vandalism or violence.”.
,”We wish to state that it’s in the character of the APC to be accusing others of any heinous/barbaric acts perpetrated or sometimes in the offing to perpetrate as a ploy to divert the attention of members of the public from ever tracing such to their side.”
“ So all well meaning Nigerians should ignore their pretences. Osun civil servants are owed 36months half salaries and APC has allegedly spent over N2billion on billboards as reported/captured in one of the dailies Can you reconcile the odds? So don’t blame SDP for the public/people rejection of APC”
“ The fact remains that SDP as a political party, and Senator Iyiola Omisore, the governorship candidate of the party are major stakeholder in the September election and they have been preaching peace in and across Osun state as well as the need for a free and fair election in and across the state before and during the on going electioneering campaign across the state.”
“It is however unfortunate that in its bid to curry the sympathy (as usual) having smelled its looming defeat in the coming governorship election, APC and its spokesperson could result into raising frivolous allegations against SDP and our governorship candidate just to score cheap political goal with the said vandalization of the billboards.”
“SDP and its governorship candidate particularly frowned at the claim by Mr Oyatomi in the Press Release that “candidates who remain silent when their supporters are committing crime, would be called upon to account because they are the beneficiaries of the vandalism of these rascals” . This statement to us in the SDP especially to Senator Iyiola Omisore “is unfortunate, uncalled for and undemocratic”.
“Senator Omisore in particular and the SDP in general condemned in its entirety any act of ” vandalism, violence and or any other acts, capable of disturbing, disrupting, threatening, or cause to negate the reigning peace and stability of our dear state”.
“With few weeks to the governorship election in Osun state, the SDP and its governorship candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore are again reiterating their total commitment to having a free, fair and credible governorship election in the state. We are at the same time using this Press Release to dissociate the SDP and Senator Iyiola Omisore from the said vandalization of the APC governorship candidate in Iwo and Ile Ife”
Also, the SDP and Senator Iyiola Omisore wish to call on the security agencies in and across Osun state to rise up to the task and nip in the bud any act capable of frustrating holding a free, fair and violent free governorship election in Osun state
and take particular look at a portion in the Press Release by Mr Oyatomi that the security institutions should “intervene before this reckless actions turn into violence.”.
