Oyo 2027: APM to Alli – Experience Is Not a Vision, Your Manifesto Recycles Makinde’s Policies

The Oyo State Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) Campaign Council has challenged the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Sharafadeen Alli, to demonstrate how his experience in public office translates into a distinct and transformative vision for Oyo State.

The campaign council said the Oyo AHEAD manifesto unveiled by Alli had failed to present original policy ideas capable of distinguishing it from the ongoing programmes of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

In a press release issued on Thursday and signed by Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Co-Director, Media and Publicity, Oyo State APM Campaign Council (OYSACC), the organisation maintained that occupying public offices should not automatically be regarded as an achievement without tangible results.

Titled *”Adekanmbi to Alli: Experience is Not a Vision,”* the statement argued that the central issue surrounding the APC manifesto was not Alli’s political résumé but whether his proposals offered a superior alternative to the current administration’s development agenda.

The APM campaign council acknowledged Alli’s previous positions as Local Government Chairman, Secretary to the State Government and Senator but questioned the achievements recorded during his years in public service.

It also criticised the APC candidate’s proposed policies on roads, education, healthcare and welfare, describing them as familiar campaign promises rather than innovative ideas capable of transforming the state.

According to the statement, several of the proposals contained in the Oyo AHEAD manifesto, particularly the establishment of Primary Healthcare Centres in every ward, are already aligned with the policy direction of the Makinde administration.

The council consequently accused the APC campaign organisation of condemning the current government’s developmental philosophy while adopting similar policy priorities in its manifesto.

It asked why the APC would describe Makinde’s administration as a failure while presenting proposals that largely mirror its existing programmes.

The statement further referenced Oyo State’s reported recognition as Nigeria’s most liveable state by Phillips Consulting and its rating as the country’s most democratic state in the 2025 Democracy Performance Index released by Kimpact Development Initiative and published by StatiSense.

It argued that these recognitions raised questions about the justification for replacing an administration whose performance had attracted national recognition with what it described as recycled policy promises.

“Credentials are not a vision. Statistics are not a strategy. And experience, however extensive, does not automatically translate into innovation,” the statement declared.

The APM campaign council insisted that the APC must present a compelling and clearly differentiated policy alternative rather than rely on Alli’s previous political appointments and experience.

It maintained that the people of Oyo State deserved a development agenda that would build on existing achievements while introducing fresh ideas capable of addressing emerging challenges.

The council ultimately declared its support for the APM governorship candidate, Honourable Bimbo Adekanmbi, describing him as the most credible option for sustaining progress, deepening good governance and consolidating the achievements recorded in the state.

The statement was dated November 5, 2026.
