The Nigeria Police Force has provided details of the rescue of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abducted in Imo State on October 1, 2026.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the victims were rescued on Wednesday, October 7, at Amakohia Ubi Village in Imo State, following sustained search-and-rescue operations conducted by the Police in collaboration with sister security agencies.
The victims were successfully recovered from their abductors and have since been taken for medical assessment and necessary care.
The Police said the rescue operation followed coordinated efforts by security agencies to locate the abducted prospective corps members and secure their safe release.
It added that operations were still ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators and bring all persons found culpable to justice.
The Force appreciated members of the public for their cooperation and support during the operation, stressing that timely information and community collaboration remained crucial to tackling security threats.
The Police further assured Nigerians of its commitment to protecting lives and property, responding promptly to security challenges and strengthening collaboration with other security agencies.
