University of Ibadan Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka has promised that the institution would not relent in setting educational pace in Nigeria, saying every effort will be made to ensure that UI retains its prestigious position as far as quality education is concerned.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of the N150 million Centre for Educational Media Resource Studies Abadina, under the Faculty of Education, Prof. Olayinka remarked that within the limited resources of the university, his administration would continually strive to blaze quality educational trail, thus, setting standards for others to follow.
Describing the Centre as the first in Africa with its specialized children library programme including Saturday’s story hour, reading seminars, diagnosing children with reading difficulty and remediation, the elated VC noted that the Centre would soon be attracting attention across African continent, given its strength and uniqueness.
Earlier, Acting Director of the Centre, Dr. Samson Oyeniyi Akande had in his speech, disclosed that “the Centre has rendered over 44 years of service to the university community and the Nigerian public in the areas of library services to schools and children, development of reading skills of the Nigerian child, and research in school librarianship among others without a befitting building”
“Without any doubt, the new building block will provide learning environment and facilities for our students and the library users who are predominantly children and young adults” Dr. Akande stated.
The ceremony which attracted one of the UI 104 foundation students, Prof. Adetoun Ogunseye, a one-time Dean of Education provided opportunities for major stakeholders including Prof. D. Elaturoti, Dr. Fadekemi Oyewusi expressing gratitude to the University Management for completing the building project.
In the same vein, Prof. Olayinka commissioned another building in Works and Maintenance Department which is expected to provide office accommodation for many staff members.
