Former students of Progressive Secondary Grammar School, Ado-Awaye, both in Nigeria and the diaspora, are set to converge on the town from Thursday, September 24 to Sunday, September 27, 2026, to celebrate the golden jubilee anniversary of the institution.
The four-day celebration, organised by the school’s Alumni Association, will feature a series of activities aimed at commemorating five decades of the institution’s contribution to the education and development of its students.
Several dignitaries are expected at the anniversary, including the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology.
The Alado of Ado-Awaye, His Royal Majesty Oba Ademola Olugbile Folakanmi, Makunledoye II, who is also a product of the school, alongside other traditional rulers, is expected to add royal colour to the celebration.
According to a statement by the National Secretary of the Alumni Association, Mogaji Soladoye Akeem Adewole, the Chairman of the association, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, his friends and members of the Board of Trustees are also expected to attend.
A former Deputy Governor of Oyo State and indigene of Ado-Awaye, Chief Iyiola Oladokun, is among the guests of honour expected at the event.
The opening ceremony on Thursday, September 24, will feature a free medical outreach for 200 residents of the town, while students of the school will receive a health talk on the dangers and effects of drug abuse.
Posthumous awards will also be presented to the pioneer principal of the school, the late Mr Akintola, and the second principal, Mr David Babalola, father of Senator Gbenga Babalola.
Other programmes lined up for the celebration include the commissioning of projects, interaction with students, alumni get-together, presentation of awards to deserving staff and students, Jumat service and thanksgiving service.
The Alumni Association appealed to its members across the globe, as well as friends and well-wishers of the school, to support the anniversary and donate generously towards the development of the institution.
The association said the golden jubilee celebration would provide an opportunity for former students to reconnect with one another, celebrate the legacy of the school and give back to the institution that contributed to shaping their lives.
