The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo State Chapter, has concluded its 2026 COEASU Week with a series of activities aimed at promoting members’ welfare, unity and professional camaraderie.
The week-long programme, held from Monday, August 17, to Friday, August 21, 2026, was organised under the leadership of the Chapter Chairman, Comrade Wasiu Adewale Adeleke, and his executive,
Publicity Secretary, Comrade Bakare Musbau Tope in a statement said the programme commenced on Monday with a health talk and medical check-up for members, while Tuesday featured indoor games designed to promote interaction and relaxation among members.
Wednesday featured a church service, followed by a friendly football match between COEASU, Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), School of Survey, Oyo.
The grand finale on Thursday was the major highlight of the week, featuring the celebration of 50 retired lecturers, who served the institution and union at different times.
According to the chairman,Comrade Wasiu Adewale Adeleke the retirees were honoured and presented with cash gifts and other materials as a mark of appreciation for their years of service and contributions to the development of the institution.
The event also featured the presentation of awards to past presidents of the union and the College Provost, as well as the launch of a book in honour of the retirees.
Among those honoured were Comrade Nuru Ogirima, former President of COEASU; Comrade Dr. Smart Odunayo Olugbeko, Immediate Past President of COEASU; and Comrade Dr. Ademola Rauf Salami, the College Provost.
The grand finale was graced by eminent personalities, including the Chairman of the Governing Council, Ambassador Dr. Nimotallahi Nihinlola Akanbi; Comrade Dr. Smart Odunayo Olugbeko; Comrade Nuru Ogirima; Baba Sam Akindele, the first elected President of COEASU; Comrade Dr. Ademola Rauf Salami; the 50 retirees; and other distinguished guests.
The 2026 COEASU Week ended on Friday with a Jumaat service and thanksgiving prayer at the College Central Mosque, providing members with an opportunity to appreciate God for the successful programme.
The celebration underscored the union’s commitment to staff welfare, recognition of meritorious service and appreciation of retired members whose contributions helped shape the growth and development of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo.
