Makinde was formally elected at the party’s National Convention held on Thursday at Rilwan Adamu Square in Bauchi State.

Speaking after his emergence, Makinde said he was prepared to work towards lifting millions of Nigerians out of poverty, which he said had worsened in recent years as a result of poorly implemented policies.

The governor described the choice of Bauchi as the venue for the convention as significant, noting that the state was the home of Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.

The APM presidential candidate also pledged to work with like-minded political leaders and stakeholders across the country to build a better Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections.

Makinde will be joined on the presidential ticket by Alhaji Lawal Musa Daura, a former Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), who served between 2015 and 2018.

Explaining the choice of Daura as his running mate, Makinde said his experience was considered important in tackling the security challenges confronting the country.

The development formally places Makinde and Daura on the APM presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The statement announcing Makinde’s emergence was signed by the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, on August 13, 2026.
