A woman identified as Innocent Serah has allegedly stabbed her husband, Innocent Nwaọjị, to death in Umuokereke Ngwa, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday night, has left residents of the community in shock.
Nwaọjị was reportedly stabbed while he was asleep, although the circumstances surrounding the incident and what may have led to the alleged attack remain unclear.
The couple got married on December 20, 2025, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, with their wedding reception held at the NTA Channel 6 premises in Aba. The tragic incident occurred barely eight months after their marriage.
A community member, David Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with journalists on Sunday, said residents were shocked by the development.
He said, “We are not aware of any disagreement between the couple before the incident. The woman had been arrested and is currently in police custody, while the deceased’s body had been deposited at a morgue.”
The police authority said investigation into the incident is ongoing and that further details would be made public as the investigation progresses.
