Ekiti Church Attack: Abducted Worshippers Rescued After 67 Days

The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of worshippers who spent 67 days in captivity after they were abducted during an attack on the Christ Apostolic Church, Eda-Oniyo, on April 28, 2026.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the Command said the victims were rescued following sustained intelligence-led operations carried out by the Nigeria Police Force in collaboration with the military, other security agencies, the Amotekun Corps, local hunters and the Ekiti State Government.

According to the police, the victims were rescued after enduring 67 days in their captors’ den and have since been taken to the hospital for medical examination and treatment to assess their health condition and ensure they receive adequate medical care.
The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, commended the dedication, professionalism and collaboration among all security stakeholders whose joint efforts led to the successful rescue operation.
He also appreciated the Ekiti State Government, under the leadership of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for its unwavering support to security agencies, describing it as critical to the success of the operation.
The police commissioner further thanked residents of the state for their vigilance and continued provision of credible information to security agencies.

While assuring the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the abduction, Falade reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Ekiti State.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency line, 08062335577.
