Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso is set to graduate over 5,717 students to various degrees and postgraduate diplomas of the institution, with 99 making first class.
The acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Rasak Olatunde ROM Kalilu, disclosed this on Tuesday, during a press conference marking the beginning of the university’s 16th convocation and founder’s day ceremonies.
Kalilu said, “A total of 4,749 first degrees will be awarded to graduating students on Monday, April 21, 2024. Of this, 99 students are graduating in the first class category whole 1,363 of them in second class upper category.
“2,580 students are in the second class lower category. 597 will be in the third class division and 25 in the pass category.
“In the postgraduate category, 56 students will be admitted into the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree, 588 of them will be admitted into various master’s degrees while 324 students will be awarded postgraduate diplomas.”
Kalilu also disclosed that the university’s 6th and current chancellor, His Royal Highness, Sir Ohna Sergeant Chidi Awuse, Nne-Nwe Eli Emphasis XIII (Olo IV), the paramount ruler of Emohua Kingdom of Rivers State, would be awarded the Doctor of Business Administration (honors causa).
Kalilu added that two other eminent personalities, Barrister Ahmed Adeniyi Raji (SAN) and Engr. Adeyinka Ayoade Ajao would be conferred with Doctor of Civil Law (honoris causa) and Doctor of Technology (honoris causa) respectively.
Kalilu, accompanied by Senate members of the institution, expressed confidence that the university has surpassed, even, the dreams of its founding fathers, adding that the feats has made is as a result of the effort of the Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
While dwelling on the various feats of the institution, he maintained that the university is in collaboration in areas of research, pedagogical and staff as well as students exchange with the following foreign universities: University of Utah, USA; University of Kentucky, USA; University of Eswatini, Eswatini; Cape Peninsula University, Peninsula, South Africa; Zhejiang Normal University, Jinhua, Zhejiang (with on-going MoU), Bowie State University, Bowie (ongoing talks towards collaboration).
