The National Association of Nigeria Travel Agency NANTA has called on Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state to consider declare state of emergency on the Ikogosi warm and cold spring in Ekiti state.
They association lamented the poor state of infrastructure and maintainance in tourism potentials.
In a statement signed by Otunba Babatunde Adesokan , Vice president Western Zone of the Association, NANTA said that ‘ It is sad that the unique tourism potential of such magnitude is in comatose and need urgent attention”
“We are aware Ikogosi warm and cold spring is a victim of politics and lack of interest by successive government but that doesn’t mean that the governor should close his eyes to the development of the site when he was returned
” We visited the site yesterday with the intention of spending two nights and going into partnership with the management but it is sad that one cannot even sleep there let alone planning to bring tourists “.
While we are calling on governor Fayemi to revisit the issue of Ikogosi warm and spring as a legacies which his government would be remembered for.
Sharing his recent South Africa indaba visit experience the zonal Vice president said the Government should prioritize tourism development to generate employment to the teeming youth who are currently job searching as tourism alone can create more than 10 millions jobs annually.
” Ikogosi alone should be able to generate over 120 million naira annually if we’ll managed, which is a very substantial income for a state like Ekiti without much natural resources to sell for survival.”
Otunba Babatunde Adesokan declare that as a professional body NANTA is ready to partner with the state government in the area of consultation to revive the destination.
” Our members need this destination to sell and get money therefore we are open to any discussion to bring back Ikogosi to life.”.
