Oriire Legislative Arm Commits to Supporting Grassroots Electoral Awareness Campaign
In a landmark move aimed at boosting democratic participation ahead of the 2027 general elections, lawmakers in Oriire Local Government have unanimously thrown their weight behind a grassroots voter sensitization and Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration drive spearheaded by the Oriire Youth Council.
The endorsement came during a spirited plenary session held at the Legislative Chamber of the Oriire Local Government Council Secretariat, where a delegation from the Youth Council formally presented their initiative to the legislative arm. The proposal was met with resounding approval and described as “purposeful and long overdue.”
Speaking at the session, Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Adebayo Opeyemi, praised the youth-led initiative as a crucial step toward reclaiming political consciousness at the grassroots level.
“This is not just an ordinary presentation; it is a roadmap to reclaiming political consciousness and power at the community level,” he said.
“We are not only impressed—we are ready to partner with you. I hereby request that you submit a budget proposal of the financial requirements for the campaign. This House will work hand in hand with the Executive Chairman to ensure the exercise is executed effectively and achieves tangible results.”
Other councillors echoed similar sentiments, applauding the coordination, discipline, and clarity of purpose demonstrated by the Youth Council. They emphasized the urgent need to combat voter apathy and underrepresentation, both of which have long plagued the local government in national elections and constituency-based allocations.
