The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1 has called on the well meaning people in the society to encourage and support the physically-challenged to become what God wants them to be.
The first class monarch gave this plea at the Oluyole Chesire Home, Ijokodo, Ibadan today while rounding off his first coronation anniversary celebration.
Accompanied by his wives and chiefs, Oba Adetunji told residents of the over 50 years home that being physically-challenged is not the same thing as being mentally challenged.
Olubadan who was overwhelmed with the reception accorded him noted with joy that the home had provided an atmosphere as close as possible to that of a family home and place emphasis on the protection of the dignity and right of each individual to live their lives the way they wish and respect their privacy.
He also affirmed that the home has restored hope for the hopeless by turning around the misfortunes of otherwise helpless people. He stated that the Chesire home had produced quite a lot of professionals. Said he “what the Oluyole Chesire Home residents need is support and encouragement of the well-meaning people in our society to be able to fulfil destiny.”
Earlier, the Chairman, Welfare Committee, Oluyole Chesire Home, Mrs Bodunde Aduloju congratulated the Olubadan of Ibadanland on his first coronation anniversary.
She expressed gratitude to the first class monarch for sparing a thought for the residents of the home. Aduloju who went down the memory lane noted that the visit of Kabiyesi, Olubadan to the home would remain evergreen to everyone associated with Oluyole Chesire Home for a long time to come.
She thanked the Olubadan for his donation in cash and kind.
